It is called “Participatory Guarantee Systems”. The PGS are locally focused quality assurance systems, and they verify producers based on active participation of stake holders and are built on a foundation of trust, social networks and knowledge exchange. Costs of participation are low and mostly take the form of voluntary time involvement rather than financial expenses. Moreover, paperwork is reduced, making it more accessible to small farmers. On the other hand, many small farmers have organized a Community Supported Agriculture, that is, local food systems with partnership between producers and consumers. Now, IFOAM has a major role in supporting small CSA farmers through PGS initiatives
